Practical Lighting Ideas for Home Areas

We love to use home lighting for illuminating dark areas and creating bright focal points at home or even for warm atmosphere. But for family members of different ages and for different functions of the rooms, we may love the balanced lighting, which is ambient and may not exert any negative impact on us. We may feel happy to do different tasks under the right lighting in different rooms. Here are some practical lighting ideas for different rooms.

Entrance Lighting

Usually, we see natural light penetrate the entrance areas and this area is often not used for activities, except the step into home. We need to make sure there is enough lighting in this area when it gets dark or when it is in the evening. We can use wall sconces for ambient lighting or use ceiling light fixture for general lighting. For a warm welcoming atmosphere, just create a color contrast between the light fixture and furniture. The entrance is an access to living room. We can use various lights.

For example, the recessed lighting for illuminating the ceiling, the skylight for inviting natural light at daytime, the cabinet lighting for removing dark spots, down lights for accenting some special areas or even lamps for general warm lighting.

Hallway Lighting

Hall lighting is also very important, which does not need to be very bright or luxurious, but has to be warm and special. We often do not choose to use pot lights or light tunnel in a ceiling at the hallway areas. We can use some surface mounted light fixtures. For balanced lighting and reducing dark spots, we need to control the number and placement of the lights. We can also use the recessed lights as night lighting and this is very necessary for family members to walk through the hallway to the bathrooms at night. Anyway, the lighting at the hallway should not create any glare.

Task Lighting

Most often, we associate the task lighting with kitchen areas. Kitchen needs task lighting for enough brightness to well perform task. But other rooms such as crafts rooms needs such lighting and we can use pendant lights, under cabinet light as the task lighting. Of course, we need to allow for more windows in such areas that involve a lot of tasks, especially at daytime because we can make the best use of natural light.

Closet Lighting

Most of us do not use closet lighting. But for the elderly or when we age, we will find the closet lighting necessary and useful. We can easily find the items in the closet when there is light. We can use LED lights which are efficient and will not create too much heat after long time use.

Home Lighting: Tips on Making Rooms Properly Lit

Are you the one who cares more about your room decoration? For all different room decorations, which part do you think is the most important? It might not always seem true, but lighting is one of the most important part of our room decoration, whether it is living room, bedroom, home office, kitchen or even bathroom. Decorative lights for different rooms can be different. Different lights are used for different decoration purposes. Here we would love to share some tips on home light decoration, especially the right use of lights in home decoration.

Most of us will choose an overhead light in different rooms, be they large or small, such as in the entryways or in the powder rooms. Overhead light is necessary, but it is not enough. It is recommended to add one more light source in the rooms. Try to use sconces which are attached to the wall instead of the ceiling installed at or near eye level or use a small table lamp. Try to use various lights in the rooms, such as task lighting, ambient lighting or accent lighting, for enough illumination and atmosphere.

Never ignore the importance of task lighting when we decorate our home with different lights. Task lighting is important in places which involve a lot of task or work, such as home office, kitchen or even bathroom. The task lights offer exceptional levels of bright light and the main function of such lights is bright enough.

Lights that can be used in bedroom may not be suitable for use in bathroom. The lights in the bathroom have to be proof to water or moisture and durable enough. Different from decorative lights in the bedroom which mainly aim at enhancing romantic atmosphere, bathroom lighting has to be of superior quality.

Now lights have different functions, and we have more choices available. When we decorate our homes, we have to make better combinations of different types of lights, such as floor lamps, table lights, overhead lighting fixtures, chandeliers, or various LED lights that take different creative looks. There is no need to use all of them in a single room, but we have at least use two different lights in every room.

When we use the lights, we had better add dimmers to the light, for instant atmosphere and for the lighting to be flattering. Use lampshade for table lamps and floor lamps.

Most of us may love to use chandeliers, but remember, we have to avoid using them in such places as bathrooms or bedrooms. We can use them in dining rooms or living rooms.

Try not to use lights that are too fluorescent or too yellow. If the lights are overly bright, use a dimmer. Try to view the lights as decorative accessories and make them look good when you turn them on.

Instead, the good lighting can help to reduce fatigue and improve our productivity.

A few hours at the office may make us feel fatigued. The fatigue is not often associated with the overly workload. Instead, it can be caused by lighting factors. For the office with windows, the employees can enjoy about 170% more white light exposure during work time and then can got a better sleep with 46 minutes more every night than those who hardly get exposed to natural light at the office. Besides, the exposure to natural light, especially during the morning can do a lot of benefits to health. Proper light exposure can help us maintain good mood and metabolism.

Nowadays, we can do work indoors with the help of high tech gadgets. But, with no access to natural light or sometimes even artificial bright light for indoor office life can gradually affect our health. Light exposure has much to do with our sleep and mood or even productivity.

Lighting in an office can be functional in that it offer us basic light, keep us focused and still, increase our productivity. For the sake of strong relation between our efficiency and natural light, we need an office that provides natural light. Or if not practical, we need enough lighting, even if it is artificial. ·

Consider task lighting at the office. Task lighting means office lighting or the light that is much about sufficient light for our work or reading area. Of course, the task lighting can never be too strong. We need to take a step back from overhead lighting because it can give a rise in the headaches, fatigue, and eye strain.

Fluorescent lighting, as one of the commonly used light, typically ends up increasing the glare in the office, especially against the glare of computers. Such lighting can pose a problem for productivity and can spread a glaring glow across the office. Besides, the fluorescent light can not offer enough light to illuminate the office environment. Fluorescent office lighting is also poor because it fails to offer full lighting color to the office environment. Usually, the bright, clear lights can elevate the mood and help us gain a sense of motivation and energy in the day. For better office environment, we need to consider the use of other lighting.

Try to keep the office environment full of natural light. This has much to do with our health, mood and productivity. We can make our office full of atmosphere by adding some decorative lights.
