Tips on Proper Use of Ambient Lighting for Home Decor

We love to make home warm and cozy with various artificial decorative lights. We choose the general lighting and ambient lighting for an instant change of look inside. All of the different lights are different in colors, brightness or even temperature.

Lights of different temperature can help create different decoration effect. If we want warm lighting, we need to choose lights with lower Kelvin, a degree of lighting temperature. The neutral one is measured 3500K. The higher, the cooler. The lower, more yellow of the lighting. For warm colors or you want to make your home full of artistic vibe, choose lighting similar to that of candlelight or incandescent light. For modern home, choose lighting with cooler temperature.

Here are some tips on proper use of ambient lighting for home decor. Read on to get correct your use of natural lighting as well as artificial lighting.

Make the best use of natural lighting. Natural lighting is always pleasant and enough when we stay at home during the daytime. If possible, we can add some more openings in our building structure to get exposed to more natural light. For those who live in northern hemisphere, try to allow for more windows to any southern face of the home to let more natural light in.

Try to reflect natural light with the help of mirrors if we live in dark basement or have rooms with smaller windows. Besides, for rooms with small window, we can also try some white paint. Choose the paint of right color which may help absorb more light. Lighter color can absorb more light.

Add recessed lighting to those rooms that natural light is hardly available. Recessed lighting can help reduce dark spots in the room. We can use some can lights, ceiling lighting, etc to make the rooms well lit. We can choose LED lights for bright and white lighting. The cost for LEDs may be a bit expensive, but it is cost effective over the time. For more savings, choose halogen light bulbs.

Choose dimmers for the lighting home. Dimmers are very useful. They can not only reduce the overly brightness of the lights, but also help us create a certain main area covered by lighting. Dimmer is necessary, especially when you are sensitive to light yet still need to see details. Dimmers just make the lighting more softer and keep the room soothing.

Use decorative lights for joy and energy. Try to make rooms full of warmth or personalize the rooms with some creative ambient lights. Make the best use of different decorations, especially the materials, color or even the decoration lights used during Christmas season. Sometimes, we can get an instant decoration effect via the right decorative light, especially those lights with creative design. Or if you have no idea, bring a decorative light, such as the Christmas tree light for enhancing atmosphere of your home.
